Remembering a Christian warrior for Zion
Michael Freund

The Jerusalem Post, March 25, 2012

...Just ask any young Israeli about Wingate, and they will most likely think you are referring to the institute for physical education and sport in Netanya, rather than the man for whom it was named.

This is a grave injustice, one that simply cannot be allowed to occur. We are doing a great disservice to history, and to ourselves, by not doing more to remember him.

Put simply, Wingate was a Christian warrior for Zion, a man whose biblical passion and beliefs propelled him to defy the pro-Arab sentiments of the day and embrace the Zionist cause. He set a noble example of unapologetically fighting terror, staunchly rejecting appeasement both as a policy and a world-view....

Why History Matters: The 1967 Six-Day War
David Harris

Huffington Post, June 08, 2011

...While some wars fade into obscurity, this one remains as relevant today as in 1967. Many of its core issues remain unresolved and in the news.

Politicians, diplomats, and journalists continue to grapple with the consequences of that war, but rarely provide context. Yet without context, some critically important things may not make sense.

First, in June 1967, there was no state of Palestine. It didn't exist and never had. Its creation, proposed by the UN in 1947, was rejected by the Arab world because it also meant the establishment of a Jewish state alongside.

Second, the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem were in Jordanian hands. Violating solemn agreements, Jordan denied Jews access to their holiest places in eastern Jerusalem. To make matters still worse, they destroyed many of those sites.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip was under Egyptian control, with harsh military rule imposed on local residents.

And the Golan Heights, which were regularly used to shell Israeli communities far below, belonged to Syria.

Third, the Arab world could have created a Palestinian state in the West Bank, eastern Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip any day of the week. They didn't. There wasn't even discussion about it. And Arab leaders, who today profess such attachment to eastern Jerusalem, rarely, if ever, visited. It was viewed as an Arab backwater....

Report: Egypt thwarts Iranian plot to sink Israeli ship in Suez Canal

Egyptian security has thwarted an Iranian-backed plot to attack Israeli ships passing through the Suez Canal, the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported on Saturday. The report said information about the plot was provided by senior officials in the State Security Claims Department of Egypt’s Justice Ministry.

According to the report, Egyptian intelligence agents discovered that Iran had recruited a team of Egyptian citizens and tasked them with sinking an Israeli ship while it passed through the Suez Canal. Iran, the report said, had hopes that the attack would engineer a diplomatic crisis between Israel and Egypt, whose cold-peace relationship has deteriorated since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.

The Suez Canal is an Egyptian-controlled artificial naval passageway that links the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea. The canal enables ships to reach Asia from Europe without having to navigate around Africa. Nearly 10 percent of global sea-borne trade passes through the 192-km (120-mile) stretch of waterway....

European, U.S. Billions to Gaza Go Poof!, Keeping Hamas in Power
Hani Abbas

Gatestone Institute, March 23, 2012

The Palestinian Authority announced this week that it has spent nearly $7 billion on the Gaza Strip since 2007, when Hamas violently seized control of the regional coast. This means that since 2007, according to Fatah spokesman Ahmed Assaf, about $120 million has been going to the Gaza Strip. He revealed that the Palestinian Authority continues to pay salaries to some 80,000 "civil servants" in there-- but he did not elaborate on the nature of their work.

The West Bank's Palestinian Authority government, headed by Salam Fayyad, has appealed to the donor countries to increase the financial aid to strengthen the Palestinian economy, especially in the Gaza Strip. But before the donors take any decision, they really should ask Fayyad and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas about the $7 billion they have already spent on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip over the past four years: Where is it?...

BIG (Buy Israel Goods) campaign set for March 30
Press Release

StandWithUs and the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, March 26, 2012

CHICAGO– StandWithUs is urging schools, campuses, synagogues, community organizations, and individuals to celebrate Israel by designating March 30 as the day to buy up Israeli goods at local stores.

The date was chosen because the anti-Israel boycott campaign has planned a global boycott of Israeli products for the same day (March 30). Protestors will stand outside stores, asking shoppers not to buy Israeli products.

“We need to show the boycotters that their efforts are doomed. Let the boycotters know that when they call for boycotts of even one or two stores or products, they will face a much larger movement to buy Israeli goods,” said StandWithUs co-founder and CEO Roz Rothstein. “We are telling people to go to their local stores, request the exact Israeli products being targeted, and buy them out. Let store managers know they should keep Israeli products well stocked on the shelves.”

StandWithUs, in partnership with the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, successfully countered a similar boycott day on November 30, 2010. They mobilized Israel supporters in every store that the boycotters had targeted worldwide. Shoppers bypassed the protesters and bought out entire Israeli product lines. Delighted store owners said it was their best shopping day and promised to keep their shelves stocked with the targeted products....
